3 ways to feel more balanced in your life
Is finding balance in your life a struggle? I know that it can feel impossible to find a balance between all the different areas of our lives. Between being a spouse, a parent, running a household and having a job that we go to or do at home our lives are busy and it’s impossible to do it all. So how can you find ways to feel more balance in your life?
First of all, you need to make sure that you take care of you. Here are ways to make yourself a priority. To me, this is such an important piece of making your life more balanced. If you don’t take care of you then you will not have the energy and strength to do anything else.
Do you ever find yourself wishing for more balance?
I know that sometimes it feels like you have to do it all and that there are just not enough hours in the day. That’s why if you do these three things you can get closer to finding the way to feel more balanced in your life. Unfortunately, I can’t give you more hours but I can help you to find the ways to make the most of your time.
make a to-do list and prioritize it
The key to getting more done starts with having a to-do list. It really helps to get everything that you need to get done out either on paper or digitally. Personally, I like using Evernote to create my lists. Then go through your list and prioritize it.
If you are someone who has a mile long list of things to do each day it just may not be possible to get it all done and that is ok. Go through your list and star or highlight the top 5 things that would be the most beneficial to do. Start with just five and work through them one at a time. The goal is that even if you only get these 5 things done today that you are doing the most important things on your list.
Then go through your list and pick the next five most important tasks and start working through them one at a time. It’s better to get things that will make the most impact in your life done before doing the busy work tasks that don’t really have to be done.
At the end of your day, you want to know you accomplished the things that mattered most. I find it helpful to pick tasks from different areas of my life to get done in my top five. An example of that is I pick the top blogging task, the top parenting task, the top housework task, etc. to get things done in the different areas of life.
Work on letting go of guilt
It’s important to realize that balance is not 100% possible. You are going to fall short in some areas, so am I and so is everyone else. No matter how perfect some people you know or see online seem. No one has it all perfectly together. So stop feeling guilty about not being able to do it all.
What really matters is that you do your best and you try to live your best life for you and your family. Too often we feel guilty about not being the best mom. There is no one way to be a mom though and what is perfect for my daughter and works in my home may not be what would work best for your kid in your home.
We need to stop comparing ourselves to other people so much. It’s not always easy to remember to do this. Too often I struggle with whether or not I’m a good mom and I wish I could be more like this person or that person. I have to work hard to let go of these feelings and remember I’m doing the best I can and as long as my daughter is healthy and happy I’m doing alright.
Sure I make mistakes sometimes but I work hard to be a good parent and that’s what counts. So challenge yourself to let go of the guilt and remember that you are doing the best you can. If there are areas you can improve in then work hard to get better but let go of the idea of perfection and guilt that you aren’t perfect. None of us are.
Ask for help
It’s a common mistake that we make in thinking we have to do it all alone. You don’t have to do everything yourself. It seems we learn the lesson that we shouldn’t ask for help or that we are somehow a failure if we can’t do it all on our own.
It can become a major risk to your health physically and mentally.
The thing is that being overwhelmed and doing too much. Then being unwilling to ask for help does affect your health in many negative ways. You can have trouble sleeping, bad headaches, stomach issues, a risk of major health problems. We all don’t want that.
How to find the balance in your life
Asking for help can mean sharing the responsibilities of your home with your kids and spouse. This can help to make things less stressful for you. If you need to take off some stress in your work life it may be time for you to hire help if you work from home. there are many options for hiring a VA to help take some of the more basic tasks.
It’s also alright to hire help for housekeeping and childcare if you need to get a bit of extra help to take off some of the pressure. It’s a matter of finding the balance of things. If you need to spend more time on your work life than getting help around the house can free you up to focus on your job.
Same thing with your kids if you feel you need to have more time with them then getting extra help for work can give you the extra time to spend doing family things. There are many ways to make one part of your life easier so that it can free up more time in different areas.
