Advice to remember when starting a how to find your passion journey

I think the most important thing to remember when you start on a quest to find your passions or any personal growth journey, is to be kind to yourself. I can’t stress that point enough and the more I learn the more being kind to yourself is essential in any personal development journey.

If you are encouraged enough by one of these books to find your passion and you try something new that you always thought you would love and don’t, don’t stress! Be happy that you tried. Enjoy the journey and move onto the next thing.

You might have to try a lot of things

You will probably have to try a lot of different things, and some of them might not fit. But, that’s OK! I have lost count of the number of things I have tried in my efforts to find what I am truly passionate about. I am still on this path.

Some people just know what it is they love and some people don’t. That’s the way it is.

I used to get very frustrated and feel lazy or useless because nothing would stick. Sometimes that thing is just not your passion and you have to know when to let it go and move onto the next thing. This is not always an easy decision. We don’t like to feel like failures.

Don’t get frustrated; finding your passion is a journey

Remember you are not a failure if you move on to something new that engages you more. You must remember that even when you find your passion there are still going to be ups and downs. It’s not always sunshine and rainbows when you find that magic thing that captures your heart.

But also note the difference between not enjoying something or getting frustrated because you didn’t get something right first time around. This is where perfectionism rears it’s ugly head. I’m guilty of this ????.

This is why finding your passion is a personal development journey. This quest isn’t just about finding something you love doing, it’s about understanding your strengths and weaknesses. Finding your passion is a path of commitment. You will be constantly learning about yourself which is the fun part and has cross-overs into so many other aspects of your life.

I constantly remind myself ‘Nothing truly good is ever easy.’

Inspirational quote about life "Nothing Truly Good Is Ever Easy" by Adrianne Elizabeth. This is a quote I regularly remind myself of when times are tough. #quotes #quotesaboutlife #quotesforwomen #dailyquotes #quotestoliveby #motivationalquotes #quoteoftheday #lifequotes

Everything comes with a challenge. You have to decide what challenges you want to take on.

New passions also come with a (often steep) learning curve. There are going to be days where you love it and days where you struggle. But if it is something you are committed to, you will reap the benefits! Staying committed to something you find really interesting will build passion.

Like anything challenging, no-one is a natural. Practicing and successes build confidence and feelings of joy. Confidence and positive emotions then build passions.

Start with curiosity and pull the strings of curiosity. If it’s something you enjoy being curious about keep going and see how your passion grows.

How do you know when it is time to let it go or keep striving for greatness?

It’s time to let go and move onto something new when the downs outweigh the ups. Do you feel overwhelmed with joy when you overcome a challenge when working on your passion project? Or are you left feeling upset, annoyed or disappointed more often than not?

If the downs outweigh the ups over the long term then maybe you should move on to something new. Do not think of this as a defeat think of this as opening up more of your time to find what you truly love.

Do you struggle to hold yourself accountable when you are starting something new?

I wish you all the best with your quest. I would love to hear what you all think about these books on how to find your passion in the comments below. Enjoy and have a passionate day!

Bonus Books on Finding Your Passion

I originally curated this list of books on finding your passion back in 2018 and I stand by it to this day. I decided it needed a bit of an update for 2020. Finding a passion is so important for overall health and wellness, something people are very focused on this year. So, here are a few extra books on how to find your passion for your reading list.

No Opportunity Wasted: 8 Ways to Create a List for the Life You Want by Phil Keoghan

No Opportunity Wasted: 8 Ways to Create a List for the Life You Want by Phil Keoghan

This is an oldie but a goodie. I found this book in an op-shop (New Zealand (aka Kiwi) slang for opportunity or charity shop) a few months back and just finished reading it. Fantastic! As the name suggests this book is all about leaving no opportunity wasted. It is about seizing the day and trying new things.

There is also a journaling and goal setting component to this book which I love! Phil walks you through how to create your own NOW bucket list.

Journal prompts help you work through why you haven’t done the things on your bucket list and how to move past those blocks. It’s all about mindset. There are countless examples throughout the book of people doing seemingly impossible things with limited resources. Once reading this book you will have no excuse!

Unfortunately, I can’t find an e-book or audible version of this book so you will have to go with a classic paperback. If you find other versions please let me know so I can share them.

Chillpreneur by Denise Duffield-Thomas

Ok, this isn’t exclusively a book about finding your passion. I decided to include this on the list because it is a reminder for workaholics to not get trapped in a continuous work cycle. This book is about creating a successful, abundant business on your terms so you have the freedom to pursue and have time for what is truly important in life (hint: your family, friends, and passions!)

Listen to Chillpreneur on Audible, get the Kindle e-book, or buy a classic paperback.
